Shirodhara
Shirodhara originates from the Sanskrit words shiro (head) and dhara (flow). A steady flow of liquid on the head is Shirodhara.
The liquids used in Shirodhara depend on what is being treated, but can include oil, milk, buttermilk, coconut water, decoction or even plain water.
There are specialized forms of Shirodhara called Ksheeradhara, Takradhara, teildhara and Jaladhara.
Shirodhara may be followed with a full body massage. Shirodhara also involves a head massage.
Shirodhara is thought to work by relaxing the hypothalamus in the brain. It can also normalize the functions of hormones that regulate sleep and emotions. It is also effective in treating mental conditions such as anxiety, and mental stress. The calming effect produced by Shirodhara is similar to that obtained with meditation.
It treats a variety of conditions including Eye diseases, Sinusitis, Allergic Rhinitis, Greying of hair, Neurological disorders, Memory loss, Insomnia, Hearing impairment, Tinnitus, Vertigo, Ménière's disease disease and certain types of skin diseases like Psoriasis.
Shiropichu
Shiro Pichu is a treatment procedure which comprises of two terms, Shiro means head and Pichu means a swab, sterile cotton pad or a cloth saturated with oil is placed on the Sahastrar Chakra – the Bhramarandhra of the head.
It is an effective treatment advised for the prevention and getting rid of many psychosomatic ailments like Schizophrenia, Depression, Anxiety, Alzimer, Dementia.
